2026 Dog Park Ambassador & Dog Friendly Events

Thank you for applying to volunteer with the City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation! We are so excited you want to join our team of over 5,000 volunteers helping Des Moines Live Well, Play Hard, and Protect the Earth.

A background check is required for the volunteer role you are applying for, as it involves direct interaction with youth and vulnerable members of our community.

Are you passionate about creating fun, safe spaces for pups to play and socialize? Join our pack and volunteer with Parks and Recreation as a dog park ambassador or at an upcoming dog-friendly event! It's a great way to give back to the community and spend time with some adorable four-legged friends.

Please make sure you complete the full volunteer application on the next page and choose your desired shift(s). You will receive 2 email confirmations when you have completed the full process. The first email will contain information about our background check process; the second will have details about the specific volunteer program you signed up for.
