City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department
2021 Veteran's Monument Restoration
October 22nd, 2021
Glendale Cemetery, 4909 University Avenue
(RAIN DATE: Friday October 29, 12:30-3:30 pm)
Join us to help celebrate our Veterans by cleaning monuments in our Veteran's section of Glendale Cemetery. Veteran’s Day (also known as Armistice Day) marked the end of the Great War (World War I) on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. In 1938, it became an official legal holiday, a celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. In celebration and preparation for Veteran’s Day on November 11, volunteers will hand clean veteran’s monuments at the entrance of Glendale Cemetery.
This event is weather permitting. If there is rain or temperatures are too low, the event will be held on Friday, October 29, 12:30-3:30 p.m.
The City of Des Moines cannot guarantee that the volunteer or any of the event attendees will not become infected with COVID-19. Volunteers and attendees use the City’s facility at their own risk.
In order to comply with emergency proclamations by the Governor or Mayor, as such may be amended from time to time, and as public health guidelines evolve, for the safety of staff and the public, the Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel at any time. In addition, the Department reserves the right to change the registration requirements at any time. The Department will contact the volunteers as soon as reasonably possible with such cancellation or changes.
