2025 Bluebird Monitoring

Various Locations

Beautiful Eastern Bluebirds reside in Des Moines parks and greenspaces. They are cavity nesters, meaning they build their nests in holes such as in a tree. With their habitat and population in decline, a series of Bluebird boxes have been installed in some of our parks to assist. The boxes create suitable nesting options for Bluebirds to utilize in locations where park visitors can easily enjoy their beautiful colors and cheerful singing.

Volunteers can help monitor the activities in the boxes between March-August.
